UNESCO celebrates light and light-based technologies on 16 May 2025
The International Day of Light is intended to harness the potential of science, promote scientific cooperation, but also to promote peace and sustainable development. Light-based technologies play an important role in numerous areas of life such as education, science, art, culture, communication, energy and medicine.
The holiday, established by UNESCO, is celebrated by
